My First Colonic Experience

After experiencing my first coffee and water enema recently, I thought it would be a good idea to try a colonic, too.

I was a little more nervous about the colonic, mostly because this time I wouldn’t be in the safe confines of my own home, but instead in a room with a colon hydrotherapist. It meant having someone see my butt and having her witness whatever comes out of me. I texted a friend who replied immediately with ‘you’re brave.’
Why yes, I am brave, I thought as I climbed onto the bed at the lovely Bayside Colonics studio in Morningside, Queensland. I could already feel my nerves dissipate as my lovely therapist, Kat, talked me through what to expect from the session. She asked me to roll onto my side, and quickly inserted the speculu, and then told me to lie back down on my back. And that was it. My butt had been seen, and it wasn’t a big deal at all. I was now covered by a towel for the remainder of the session. Seen one butt, seen them all, I guess.
Kat talked me through the colon hydrtherapy process. A colonic is quite a different experience to an enema. First, it takes longer. The session takes around 45 minutes, and water flows in and out continuously to help flush out any waste material and toxins from the colon. As the water goes in, Kat explained that I simply need to let her know when I feel the need to release. I felt the need almost immediately, but I managed to hold on a bit longer. The water is used to help soften the stool and stimulate the bowel to release waste. There is no sucking and it is very gentle, also no smells or sounds which surprised me.
While the session went on, Kat massaged my stomach and talked to me about my health journey. I’m a relatively healthy person, someone who believes fully in a balanced lifestyle. Which means I feel zero guilt when I reach for some chocolate. A piece of chocolate one day, a colonic the next. Balanced, right?
The entire colonic experience was interesting. I released some bile and some gas, which we spoke about in the session, but not much else. I am also quite regular for the most part. But the first session is just the start. It’s the second and third where you start really seeing some movement. And despite not releasing all that much, my body felt so clean afterwards. Also, lying down for forty minutes away from the computer, with an awesome therapist massaging your stomach, might just be the perfect way to finally slow down.
My colonic session did show some undigested tomato skin, which she said is quite a hard one to break down in the body. It made me realise I don’t practice mindful eating enough. We should be chewing our food a lot more than we do. Admittedly, I have a bowl of food next to me as I type this. I really should break that habit. The undigested food can also cause bloating which I didnt know.
Overall it felt like a success and something I would gladly do again.
If you’re someone who struggles with constipation, if your body needs some detoxing, or if you simply want some time out to work on yourself, I highly recommend a colonic. The Colon Hydrotherapists at Bayside Colonic instantly put you at ease and I can see why people leave one appointment and immediately book their next.
If you’re looking for instant relief, try a colonic! I can't wait to continue my journey and continue seeing the benefits.
