FAQ: FAQ

WHAT WILL MY FIRST SESSION BE LIKE?

Before beginning treatment at Bayside Colonics, your therapist will discuss your personal detoxing and health goals, health history, explain the treatment and address any concerns or questions you might have. When you are comfortable, the session will begin and your therapist will guide you through your first colonic. This will consist of the insertion (which just feels a bit funky), then you will roll onto your back with your knees bent and be completely covered up for privacy. The therapist will then turn on the water, and facilitate the fills and releases of water with you to slowly and gently loosen the compacted waste matter in your colon and allow your body to release it. You will be able to view everything that comes out of your colon and your therapist will explain what it means. Once you have finished your treatment, the water will be turned off, the speculum carefully removed, you will regain muscle control of the rectum (AKA you will not poo yourself on the table) and you will go straight to sit on the toilet to let gravity do the rest. Once you are finished, you will get dressed and your therapist will discuss their recommendations and treatment plan with you before you go on your way.

WILL MY COLONIC BE PAINFUL?

Colonics should not be painful, however depending on your toxicity and the level of compaction in your colon, your first session may be a bit uncomfortable as all of these toxins are stirred up to be released. Some clients experience nausea which goes away immediately after the toxicity is flushed from the body. Others experience mild to moderate cramping (similar to that of a period pain or diarrhoea) which again goes away once the body releases the toxicity. The feeling of release is euphoric and after your first session you should feel lighter, cleaner and refreshed.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

We recommend wearing something comfortable that can be removed from the waist down. Comfortable pants/shorts and a top are preferable as you will remove everything from the waist down for your treatment and use a towel to cover up until you are under the blankets on the table.

DO I STILL NEED A COLONIC IF I GO TO THE TOILET EVERYDAY?

Yes! Even if you don't think you are constipated (meaning your bowel moves a solid 2-3 times per day with ease) the high level of toxicity present in our environments from overuse of toxic chemicals in food and other products, we are at risk of toxicity overload which can affect us mentally and physically. Give your body the chance to detox from the processed foods, msg, gmo's, animal proteins, pesticides, sugars, other chemicals we are exposed to on a daily basis by flushing the colon completely.

Colonics also help to detoxify the liver, bloodstream, kidneys while providing a release for the mind, body and soul. So much more to offer than just the relief of constipation!

CAN I GO TO WORK OR SPORT AFTER MY COLONIC?

Yes, you can.  All of your release should take place at the clinic and if you don’t normally poo your pants in public, then you shouldn’t start now! However, if it’s your first colonic, we recommend coming at a time when you can relax afterwards as you may be exhausted with a large toxin release. You may also find the need to go to the loo several more times throughout the day as waste will have shifted around.

HOW SHOULD I EXPECT TO FEEL AFTER A COLONIC?

For the most part, AMAZING! You should feel lighter, refreshed, relaxed and have a better sense of inner balance. However, if you are very compacted, you may need several sessions back to back to truly empty your colon. Thus, after your first session when there is still quite a bit in there, you may feel a bit sick after which just means your body truly needs this and you should try to come back as soon as possible to flush everything out.

If you have been experiencing emotional stress or trauma, you may feel exhausted after a colonic or even extremely emotional as once the flood gates open, theres no stopping them. Crying is very normal after a colonic as its just another way our body detoxes.

CAN I HAVE A COLONIC WHILE I’M ON MY PERIOD?

Yes, of course you can. This is actually a great time for a colonic as your body is already detoxing through your monthly flow and you may be feeling tired, bloated or irritable which a colonic will help.

CAN I HAVE COLONICS DURING MY PREGNANCY?

With everything during pregnancy, there is a risk. If you feel you would benefit from a colon cleanse during your second trimester or are severely constipated and the toxicity in your body is making you uncomfortable, contact us and we can discuss different ways we can help relieve you. Many women do have colonics during pregnancy, its also an important time to look at what you are eating and how this might be affecting your and your baby’s health.

WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATIONS (CONDITIONS) THAT COULD PREVENT ME FROM RECEIVING COLON HYDROTHERAPY?

CAN COLON HYDROTHERAPY BE USED FOR COLONOSCOPY PREPARATION?

Yes, absolutely. Colonics are a natural and more effective way to cleanse the entire large intestine before a colonoscopy. For further information on the benefits of this, watch the video here.

CAN I EAT BEFORE MY COLONIC?

Fasting for at least 4 hours is recommended (but not required) to ensure the body is not still digesting at the same time its trying to detox. From personal experience, an empty stomach makes the treatment far more comfortable.

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD AVOID AFTER MY COLONIC?

Your therapist will discuss recommendations with you however as a general rule, avoiding greasy, sugary, spicy and other heavy foods directly after a colonic is best. Drink lots of water, take a probiotic and allow your body to rest if required. Alcohol should be avoided after a colonic as the colon, liver and bloodstream have just been cleansed and it will go straight into your system and effect you extremely quickly.

DO COLONICS REMOVE GOOD BACTERIA TOO? AND ISNT THIS BAD?

Colon Hydrotherapy does not discriminate. Good and bad bacteria are both removed throughout the course of a session, however the balance of both is essential in your bowel for optimal gut health. If you have an overload of pathogens, yeasts, bacteria and parasites in your colon, it is better to remove them with the toxicity and repopulate the colon with good bacteria using a strong probiotic. It is always recommended to take a probiotic after colon hydrotherapy.

DOES HAVING TOO MANY COLONICS MAKE YOUR BOWEL LAZY AND RELIANT ON THEM?

No, in fact colonics increase colon muscle tone and peristalsis. Colonics can be done as regularly as you like. and are a fantastic way to maintain good health.

ARE COLONICS SAFE?

Yes. Colon hydrotherapy is one of the most gentle body therapies and thus extremely safe. Safety is a relevant term, though, that is dependent upon the equipment used and the therapists handling the equipment.

Bayside Colonics uses only top of the line equipment, the Aquanet EC-2000, with built in safety mechanism that exceed the FDA standards around the world are are currently undergoing TGA approval in Australia. The Aquanet EC-2000 is also a closed system, vs. an open system, and thus uses special rectal speculums designed to ensure the health and safety of the colon are protected. The speculum and tubes used are prepackaged and will only be used once, then disposed.

Our staff of colon hydrotherapists are professionally trained, certified and tested on the equipment to ensure they know how to handle the equipment accordingly.

Being an essentially natural process, there is virtually no danger with a colonic. Our intent is to provide a safe and healthy service so that you do not have to worry. Cleaning off the necessary equipment is done as a normal procedure and fresh clean linen is used for each colonic, as well. There is no need for sterilization of any equipment as all equipment that would normally be sterilized is now disposable.
