5 Reasons You're Not Pooping Everyday

There can be so many reasons for irregular bowel movements, but if you’re not going as regularly as you’d like, one (or more) of these might be the reason:
1. You’re not hydrated.
Your colon needs water to do its job. If you’re not drinking enough fluids, things can dry out and slow down. Consider aiming for at least 2-3 litres of filtered water a day, and add more if you're active. Set yourself a reminder on your phone if you’re the sort or person who needs a gentle nudge in your busy day. Adding in a natural electrolyte can also increase absorption and hydration in the body.
2. You’re stressed.
Unfortunately, stress impacts everything, including your gut. High levels of cortisol can mess with digestion, slow down motility, and even cause constipation or diarrhoea. It’s important to find ways to manage your stress, even if that means adding ten minutes of mindfulness to your daily routine. It might not seem like a lot, but you’d be surprised at how much it can help. Stress also causes the muscles of the bowels to constrict, making movement harder and an inability to “let go” of the stool.
3. Your diet is low in fibre
Diet is everything when it comes to digestion. If you’re eating a lot of heavily processed foods, refined sugars, and not enough fibre, your gut’s going to struggle. Fibre (from fruits, veggies, whole grains, and legumes) is key to bulking and moving stool through the colon. Consider adding more fibre if you are constipated or your stools are not feeling complete when evacuating.
4. You have gut dysbiosis
Your gut microbiome requires a delicate balance of good and bad bacteria to thrive and have regular bowel motions. You may be lacking in the right probiotics, or require a parasite or other type of cleanse to rebalance your gut. Candida, threadworms, pinworms, or other overgrowths can cause constipation symptoms until treated.
5. You’re on medication.
Some common medications, like antidepressants, decongestants, pain killers or iron supplements, can have a drying effect on the entire body which leads to constipation. Always check and discuss the side effects with your health care professional and consider taking a stool softener like ConstaClear and increase hydration to offset the constipation symptoms.
3 simple ways to stay regular
1. Create a healthy lifestyle.
Move your body, stay hydrated, eat fibre-rich foods, and listen to your body’s cues. Your gut will thank you. Sometimes it only takes some small habit changes to see huge results. When it comes to a healthier lifestyle, there are always ways in which the body can improve.
2. Try enemas.
An enema is done at home, in your own time. A gentle water enema can help clear blockages and support a sluggish digestive system, especially when things just aren’t moving. You can find out more about enemas here.
3. Consider regular colonics
Colon hydrotherapy can support deeper detoxing and help reset your digestive system by flushing the colon with a large amount of water. A colonic is done in-house with a colon hydrotherapist. Upon arrival, your therapist will explain the colonic process, discuss your goals, and review your diet and lifestyle. The entire process takes around 45 minutes.
Colonics are very useful for those with chronic constipation who may not be able to change their lifestyle circumstances causing the constipation.
Never underestimate the importance of regular daily bowel movements! Make some simple changes at home, support your gut health with colonics and the correct supplements. Investing in your gut health is investing in your present and future wellbeing. Quality of life is everything and we know firsthand that being constipated can impact you physically, mentally and emotionally. Get yourself regular and feel the benefits!
